Sharon Springs, surrounded by rolling hills in upstate New York, is where two artist photographers - Francisco Diaz (USA) and Deb Young (New Zealand) – met Josh Kilmer-Purcell and Dr. Brent Ridge for the first time on their farm, Beekman 1802. Despite the biting chill of winter and deep snow, it was a warm and welcoming intro of two creative teams over a herd of goats and their kids. The purpose of this visit for the art duo, known as The International Collaboration Project, was to photograph the Beekman goats on their farm. Hundreds of images later, Young and Diaz combined their efforts to create a new photographic series, The Four Seasons.

The first image produced, Summer – Pastorale, adorns the Beekman 1802 Boys’ new Mercantile shopping bag which will be exclusively available for those goodies purchased at the Mercantile store.

These two teams are a prime example of successful collaboration - artists working together with lifestyle farmers extraordinaire. Successful collaboration on any scale begins with a seed of thought and has the potential to expand beyond expectation. To quote the Beekman 1802 Boys, “To prove that small farms can grow bigger than their fences.”  This is what it means for creatives to think outside the box. For a glimpse into what makes collaboration rewarding, read Diaz and Young’s new blog post.
